Happy 4th of July! – TBG Weekly Update 7/3/2020

I’m absolutely heartbroken and devastated that my neighbors’ 20 year old beautiful daughter’s life was cut short. The shocking news of the passing of a young beautiful girl in her prime with the loveliest parents and extended family around her is as painful as it gets. It’s unfathomable to think of the loss and the grief and the road ahead.

In Los Angeles we’re now going to be fined $300 if we go out in public without a mask and the beaches are closing this weekend. It’s hard to live with sadness and grief and fear and closures and shut down. The temporary is less hard than the permanent.

Last Sunday, we biked the Marvin Braude bike trail from start to finish and it’s truly worth experiencing! It starts at Will Rogers State Beach. You head toward the Santa Monica Pier and then you go through Santa Monica and to the end of the Venice boardwalk. In Venice you follow the bikes painted on the pavement that brings you past Marina del Rey and the end of the Ballona Creek trail. Then you go through Playa del Rey, Dockweiler Beach, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, and it ends at Torrance Beach. It was interesting to watch beginner hang glider lessons and surf lessons along the way. Such a uniquely cool Los Angeles experience!

From the start of Corona, our local MLS didn’t tally “days on market”. All new listings had a days on market count of zero and it stayed that way. The MLS is starting to count days on market again on Monday July 6 because there’s been so much real estate activity and the world is attempting to open up economically.

130 S Highland presents a very attractive Corona offering. The gem of this house is the backyard. The lot is almost 10,000 square feet. There’s a large grassy yard and at the very back of it, a large new pool with a built-in automatic pool cover and a big spa and baja step. There’s a pergola with a built-in barbecue island (with a built in gas line) and a deck around the pool. The three car garage is converted to a three room usable space; the previous owners ran a big business from there – one large public space and then two private offices off of it. While there’s no bathroom in the garage right now, there is a sewer line underground so adding a bathroom would be easy. Inside the house, the master bedroom is extra large and surrounded by windows – east and west. The kitchen and bathrooms are remodeled (and the master bath has a rain shower and a heated toilet/bidet.) The owners installed double paned windows to soften the noise of Highland. A remodeled Hancock Park house in move-in condition with a huge backyard and pool is an exciting opportunity.

151 S Citrus is a gem on a quiet tree lined street. This two story house is around 3000 square feet with 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms and a center hall plan and circular staircase in the absolute best spot in town, It has a flat grassy yard with plenty of room for a pool and a two car garage. Systems like plumbing, electrical, American Standard AC units, bolting, and roof are in place. A lucky new buyer will make this their forever home – whether they do the cosmetic upgrades now or down the line.

The resilient human spirit in me always pushes to look past the next new stress and challenge and to figure out how to steer my thoughts toward the hopeful and the positive and the sunshine. This week that’s hard. I wish to see my beautiful young neighbor walking her dog down the block and laughing with her cousins across the street on their front lawn. Some things in life knock the wind out of us and leave us speechless with just tears running down our face and all we can do is feel all the feelings – alone and together.

My favorite place in the world is the ocean. There’s high tide and low tide but every time of day the waves keep coming. The coolest ocean goers are the surfers who ride the waves. They swim out, balance themselves and then stand up, ride the crest, fall into the spume, and then they get right back up and swim out again. I want to learn to surf like that.

Happy July 4th weekend!
