Brookside
A small neighborhood located in the Mid-Wilshire district, Brookside is approximately a century old. Comprised of just 8 tree-lined streets, Brookside has a strong community atmosphere and is known for throwing block parties. It borders both John Burroughs Middle School and Los Angeles High School, and has access to the LA High Memorial Park. The community was initially established to lure wealthy families away from the nearby neighborhood of West Adams. In recent years it has certainly benefited from being only a short distance from Museum Row: the area of Mid-Wilshire where the La Brea Tar Pits, Petersen Automotive Museum, and LACMA can be found. Families appreciate Brookside for its large, single-family homes and dearth of current development— the area has benefited from an Interim Control Ordinance to prevent the residential teardowns and the construction of McMansions. Additionally, it’s very close to the Hancock Park neighborhood favored by many of Los Angeles’ wealthy families, as well as Windsor Square.NEIGHBORHOOD HIGHLIGHTS
