My Favorite Part of Selling Real Estate – TBG Update 6/12/2020

On Thursday I got a missed call at 10:53 am from old clients from many years ago who live in NY. At 3:42 pm they called again. When my showings ended, I returned the call and with urgency and emotion, this couple said that they wanted to tell me that their son got engaged. Years ago, I sold a property that the wife inherited from a relative who lived in California. When I sold their property, they shared with me that they have two children with serious illnesses and they made a choice to keep the illnesses a secret from the world so that they wouldn’t be judged or pitied. They chose back then to share their secret with a stranger in another state who, in all likelihood, would never cross paths with anyone their family knew. So many years later, they remembered that they shared their secret and they wanted to share their joy with a human who would appreciate the extent of it. And that captures my absolute favorite part of selling real estate – connecting to all the humans and their stories and their emotions. It’s cool that they remembered. I wish I met their kids and I knew more…

This week I met so many accomplished women. A single woman buying one of our listings is the preeminent expert in her field and her agent is her girl friend from Stanford Law School. Another single woman who plans to sell her home made it to the Forbes top 30 under 30 as a blogger/social influencer. A very soft refined sweet married woman is thinking to sell her home and start working remotely from out of the area as a partner at her law firm; it was cool that at the listing appointment she did all the talking and her husband listened with respect. These experiences made me feel like the world has shifted and progress has been made.

It’s powerful and inspiring that the whole world is rallying together to promote so effectively that black lives matter. The world will no doubt shift and widespread progress will be made and post revolution I’m excited that we’ll live in a happier and more respectful place.

For the past few months, there’s been limited supply and more demand than supply in our market. From phone calls and meetings this week, sellers are starting to think about selling again. People thinking to sell are not driven by economics. They’re driven by desire to make a change – change in city, change in job, change in living arrangements. Buyers thinking sellers will need to sell for economic reasons and there will be so many crazy good deals are not thinking about it right; sellers are not having to sell but they’re choosing to sell and they don’t need to give their houses away for a buyer to buy them. Prices are actually up from the end of last year.

I went to restaurants twice this week to support businesses that were shut down for such a long time. I also went to my favorite small independent retailer that finally got to open after months of being closed by government order. Gyms open on Mondays. I’m happy to see all these businesses get back on their feet. I hope we get to go back to doing open houses again soon too.

Our neighborhood is filled with the coolest people. It’s such an honor to live and to work here!

Have a spectacular weekend!

Xoxoxo,
Sheri
