Third Street Elementary School

Third Street Elementary School

Give your child a head-start in life by sending her to the best elementary school in your district. Aside from giving her a solid foundation in education, proper schooling will prepare her for what’s ahead, teaching her to make good choices and become the best that she can be.

Hailed by Los Angeles Magazine as one of the 60 great elementary schools you should know about – public or private – Third Street Elementary School is tops when it comes to challenging and empowering its students. It also boasts a near perfect rating of 9 out of 10 from GreatSchools.org.

Educational programs

Tucked away in the manicured lawns and immaculate sidewalks of Las Palmas and June Street, this school understands the need to offer learning opportunities and education tailored to your child’s unique set of capabilities, interests, and needs.

Does your child demonstrate capabilities advanced for her age or grade? To meet special learning requirements, Third Street Elementary has Schools for Advanced Studies (SAS) and Gifted Cluster classes for Grades 3 to 5.

If your child is a gifted or talented student, the school will include her in these clustered classes so that she gets the differentiated instruction she needs without feeling isolated.

Children with special needs also get sufficient attention here, with the school offering the following services:

The Special Education Advisory Committee, which consists of volunteers, offers support to teachers and parents of special needs students through the Friends Community Center.

After-school options

A highly competent and attentive faculty will attend to your child during school hours, while the administration and school district offer numerous after-school options to busy parents.

Beyond the Bell, sponsored by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), is a program that provides free after-school supervision for students from Grades 2 to 5. Supervision begins after dismissal in the afternoon and lasts until 6 pm.

Library Aide, funded by Friends of Third, allows students from Grades 2 to 5 to use the library between dismissal time and 5:30 pm.

Parent volunteers run the Snack Shop from Monday to Thursday, which remains open one hour after dismissal. Here students can buy healthy but delicious snacks and drinks.

Your child will enjoy arts and crafts, educational games, board games, story time, and outdoor play under Kids Ko-R, a fee-based after-school program. It also offers a daily homework lab.

And then there are off-campus after-school programs, which are privately arranged between families and off-campus organizations for kids in Grades 2 to 5. Children under this program may only be picked up at the Las Palmas gate.

These options can give you peace of mind and alleviate some of the stress that comes with child care, especially if you have a full-time job and may not always be available to pick your child up immediately after class.
