My heart is in Israel. I was in Israel this week, in Jerusalem, visiting my kids, when the first of the sirens wailed, shocked people ran for safe rooms, and after each siren came the loud booming noise of the Iron Dome intercepting missiles. I was there watching firsthand as local shop owners put locks on their stores, explaining that all workers went to fight the war so all shops need to close, and locals cried over friends and family who were massacred in the terrorist attacks. It’s shocking, horrifying, and devastating for all of us near and far to experience the events of this war unfold – the hostages, the overwhelming loss of innocent life, the fear and uncertainty, and so many young kid soldiers on the front lines fighting for the Jewish state, but really for all of us Jews everywhere in the world. I always believed that overwhelming love and bright light are what make life worth living. Now more than ever I believe it even more. I pray for all the people – in captivity, in danger zones, in battle, in grief for loved ones. I wish for a world filled with love and light, without hate or divisiveness or judgment, with only hugs and kisses for the young and the old, and with safety and security for all people everywhere. I wish I was back in Israel with my toddler grandson at my side and my 2 week old granddaughter in my arms. No matter our race, nationality, or political affiliation, all human lives are precious and we all need to collectively figure out how to fabricate a world where each person in the world is valued and cherished. Wishing for a week of kindness, compassion, and generosity from like-minded people who wish for a world filled with peace and love.
