Marlborough School

Imagine a school setting where your daughter can fill every role and be taught that there’s tremendous potential in being a young woman.

That’s what girls’ schools are for – the subtraction of male students increases opportunities for female attendees and puts them front and center.

Marlborough School has been putting the focus on female students for more than a century, preparing them for the rigors of college life and helping them reach the pinnacle of their abilities.

This urban day school serves Grades 7 to 12 students, and is the oldest independent academic institution for girls in southern California.

More than 30 percent of the student population goes on to attend Ivy League schools, and the school has ranked 6th in the nation for SAT scores.

Groundwork for a bright future
Marlborough School instills the following values in its students:

  • Community
  • Excellence
  • Confidence
  • Honor

Here, young women develop the character and self-assurance they need to become high-achieving and globally-engaged citizens. The school encourages them to excel academically, as well as hone their talents in arts and athletics.

Despite its glowing accolades, the school refuses to become complacent. With the following 10-year goals, it will continue to give young women the best education possible:

  • Preparing Marlborough Girls for the Future
  • Growing, Developing, and Sustaining Marlborough School
  • Leading Marlborough Today, Leading Marlborough Tomorrow
  • Engaging Locally, Leading Globally

Your child will have the opportunity to cultivate her interests and discover new ones with the school’s 156 course offerings. A student-teacher ratio of 8:1 also guarantees that she’ll get the most out of her classes.

Empathic leadership
Over 80 percent of the students here are involved in community outreach programs. Violets Giving Circle, a philanthropic organization run by the students, raised a staggering $180,000 over a seven-year period.

The amount, which makes up the Circle’s endowed fund, has been used to support a number of non-profits that work towards improving learning opportunities for women in Los Angeles.

Another organization, Violets in the Community, gives students the opportunity to initiate volunteer programs with local groups in their community. This allows them to demonstrate leadership in a community they care deeply about.

Active involvement in the school’s extracurricular art programs and athletic teams gives students a chance to take the lead. Their shared passion for a sport or art form can also help them build lasting friendships.

If your daughter has a flair for visual and performing arts, she’ll enjoy herself here. Basketball, softball, and equestrian are just some of the sports activities she can choose from.

The school’s visual arts students won over 94 Scholastic Art & Writing awards in 2015 alone, while recent graduates compete at schools like MIT, Yale, and Amherst.

With Marlborough School’s commitment to the education of young women, you know your daughter is in good hands. Step back and watch her blossom into a well-rounded and mature person.
